CHILDREN'S QUESTIONS concerning language camps, ski camps, math camps, English camps, vacation courses, language trips

What can I expect?
You are wondering what to expect during your fri-LoLo language stay. You may also still be unsure. Should I really go there? I don't know anyone there and it sounds like school during the vacations. Don't worry! All the other young people feel the same way you do. And just like school, it will be non-safe! At the fri-LoLo language camp you will:
- Meet new colleagues
- Laugh a lot
- Improve your French, English or German without it feeling like school
- Participate in sporting and creative activities & exciting excursions
- Discover new places and Romandie
- Eat like a queen or king
- Come back feeling, "Wow, that was really much cooler than I expected!"
Did you know that we are on a first name basis?
No "excuse me" or "sir". We are at the camp to experience something with you. Many of us take extra vacation time to be at the camp and break away from our everyday lives. Because a language camp is such a positive experience that you will always remember!
Different from school
"Me want have fun!" Sounds funny and wrong at first BUT everyone understands what is meant. We are at eye level and chat a lot with each other. Everyone makes mistakes, even a teacher or Superman. So no stress at all!

This is exactly our approach to language teaching. We want to show you that a language is not mathematics. There is no right or wrong. A language is alive. If you dare to speak, you will be understood!
We will discover that even with "I am so bad at grammar" or "I don't know any vocabulary" you can say, tell and experience sooooooo incredibly much. We want to discover how simple language actually is. In a few days we won't be able to speak like a genius. But we will loosen blocks and knots in our head and be less afraid to say something. We'll also learn some learning strategies and tips to use at home. And maybe in the future you will go to French or English school with a different motivation.
The first day
You will arrive at the camp on Sunday afternoon at about 16h00. We will show you your room and start with a short tour through the camp. After dinner there will be a short language test and get-to-know games. At 22h30 it is bedtime.

At the beginning you might feel a bit overwhelmed, but that will pass quickly. At the latest after the get-to-know games you will find new friends and colleagues of your age, who probably have the same interests as you!
What do we eat?
We eat what tastes good! Fresh, healthy - but also with the necessary portion of vacation: We grill every week, also eat fondue, raclette & burgers. Pizza, pasta & lasagna anyway. And it is also exotic: Peruvian, Asian, Mexican, African, Indian ...

Always with a colorful salad buffet and vegetarian and vegan options. To drink, there are homemade iced teas, infused water, apple spritzer and even a Coke or Rivella on Friday for the disco.

PARENTAL QUESTIONS regarding language camps, ski camps, math camps, English camps, summer camps, language trips

My child has never been out alone
Perhaps it is the first "big trip" alone for your child. We make sure that your daughter/son has a contact person who is there for questions, worries, homesickness or other concerns. You are welcome to write or call us in advance and we will discuss the details. We keep a special eye on the younger or shy ones without them noticing.

No child is left alone and our caregivers make sure that each child understands all the important information. Homesickness and other fears quickly fade away, and by Monday evening at the latest, the "most difficult" cases are well integrated and have found a connection. Overcoming such fears can be unpleasant for a child, but it contributes significantly to personality development.
Arrival / Departure
Arrival: Sundays from 16h00 to 17h00. You can bring your child individually to the camp or benefit from our accompanied train ride from Zurich HB. The price including ticket is one way: 70 CHF and 35 CHF with GA.
Departure: Saturday at about 17h00. You can pick up your child individually or register for our accompanied train ride to Zurich HB.

Officially, a language week ends after the excursion on Saturday at the train station of the excursion location. However, your child can leave earlier, e.g. on Friday after lunch/dinner or on Saturday before the excursion.
For our surf camp in Portugal these details vary.

Contact person at the camp
You will receive your contact person at the camp + phone number with the invitation form by e-mail about 4 weeks before the camp starts.

Emergencies: If an emergency occurs at the camp, we will inform you immediately. If you need to report an emergency, you can reach our camp director at any time.
Mobile / Cell phone
The children are allowed to bring their cell phones or other electronic devices to the camp but their use is limited. We collect the devices before bedtime (22h30) and return them after the afternoon program (approx. 17h30).
Classification language course
The language courses at the summer camp are primarily divided according to level. With the invitation form the children receive a written language test in advance. An oral test is given on the day of arrival. We evaluate the results and divide according to our assessment. However, age and friendships can be taken into account.
My child has ADHD
Adolescents with ADHD/ ADD or other "learning disabilities" often also have problems learning French/ learning English/ learning German. For children with learning disabilities we offer:

- A sense of achievement in the language course without pressure to perform and beyond.
- Small groups help with concentration
- Increased individual focus compared to school
- Language course based on the children's interests
- Repetitions & learning techniques for at home

What we cannot offer: Learning therapy for children during the vacations. We have to settle for small successes. Time at camp is limited and we cannot address all learning issues. Every child will make progress, however great it may be. If your child has a reading or spelling disorder or difficulty with concentration (ADD/ ADHD), please indicate this when registering. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to discuss further details in person.

Why a language camp?
In a school class of 15-25 children, a child speaks only a few minutes of English or French per week, if at all. This is exactly where our language camps come in!

The unique ratio of a maximum of 6 young people per course allows each child significantly more language experience. More speaking, more understanding, more involvement in their own interests, more fun. The 15 hours of language lessons per week in the fri-LoLo - language camp mean the equivalent of up to 5 weeks of French or English at school.
What is included in one week?
  • 15 hours language course FR | EN | DE
  • Small classes with a maximum of 6 children per language group
  • 6 nights in dormitory
  • Homemade full board
  • 3 excursions - adrenaline | nature | culture
  • Activity program with focus on art, cooking & sports
  • 24/7 supervision
  • Registration fee & T-shirt
  • Mega new things together with new friends - YES WE CAMP!
For which children is a language camp suitable?
The summer camp is aimed at 12 to 16 year olds. There are no fixed groups divided by age or interests. The children have a choice and are allowed to have a say in the activities and also in the lessons.

Our experience with a wide age range confirms this time and again. The children can and will learn from each other and bring similar interests. Regardless of age, children are at different stages of development.

No matter what age, no matter what character: educational and eventful language vacations with a family atmosphere and a positive group dynamic await.
